The Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

Autumn has truly arrived as we started the week with above average temperatures and are ending the week with below average temperatures.  Right in the middle of it all, we had some rain.  The colors seem to have brightened up since the rain and it is glorious!

Here's what I have been up to this week:

Seeing ~
The beautiful, brilliant colors of fall - oranges, reds, yellows and so many shades of brown from russet to cinnamon to burnt sienna to chestnut.

Smelling ~
Smoke from a wood fire.
Pumpkin pie spice.

In the kitchen ~
Pork Chops with Sauerkraut and Apples
Pumpkin muffins

What I read ~

'Twas the Knife Before Christmas (A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery, #2)

Currently reading ~

Unleashed (Kate Turner, DVM #2)

I also started Christmas by the Book by Anne Marie Ryan.  It just wasn't grabbing me, so I put it aside for now.

Watching ~
We are still watching NYPD Blue, but one evening it just wouldn't play.  So we ended up watching La Brea.  It was intense, but it hooked me right away.

What have you been up to this week? I hope it's been a good one!
~ Gretchen

  5. I live in Florida and don't get to see fall colors very often. I miss seeing them!

I've never been a fan of pumpkin flavored food except for Pumpkin Pie, but my tastes have been changing so I may try Pumpkin Bread or Muffins again.

    1. I would miss the fall colors too. I didn't used to be a fan of pumpkin flavored foods either, but now I anticipate them each year.

  6. I see no fall colors here along the Texas Gulf Coast, but we saw plenty in the forests of Arkansas last week.

I'm looking forward to doing lots of baking soon, especially with pumpkin.

Our book club has scheduled us for cozy Christmas mysteries in December. Maybe I will look for The Knife Before Christmas.

  7. Here in Florida we don't have the autumn colors. That's one thing I miss about being away from New York. The colors are just so beautiful.

I started watching La Brea and really like it.

I hope you have a great week!

  8. No sign of fall in SW Florida. I'm still waiting for our overnight temp to drop below 70. Love pumpkin spice lattes, but have never made one myself...I'll try the recipe you posted. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Gretchen, I was just looking and making a list of a few holiday/Christmas themed books for November/December reading. I lean more toward mystery than romance though. Fall, baked apple smells and pumpkin bread are delightful.

    1. I started a little early on the Christmas reading this year. The third book in the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series is coming out this year so I wanted to be ready for it. I enjoy this series. I lean more toward mystery than romance too.
