The Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It truly feels like November.  The days have been rather dark.  Not only does the sun set before 5:00 pm, but we have had several dreary, gray days.  By the time this posts, we will most likely have several inches of snow on the ground.  The forecast says to expect 2 to 4 inches.  Fortunately, it is expected to warm up midweek, so the snow should melt.

Here's what I have been up to this week:

Seeing ~
Lots of birds at the bird bath -
*Tufted Titmice
*Black-capped Chickadees
*Juncos

Smelling ~
The acrid smell of burning leaves.
Snow. (Did you know you can smell snow?  Just like you can smell rain coming, snow has a distinctive smell in the air.)

In the kitchen ~

What I read ~

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

Currently reading ~

The London House

Watching ~
We recently watched 11-22-63, based on the book by Stephen King.  It is an eight part series.  It's a good story.

What have you been up to this week? I hope it's been a good one!

~ Gretchen

  1. Did you read 11-22-63? I loved that book and was afraid that the miniseries would ruin it.

  2. Rick and I watch and feed the birds in our backyard too. Since it's cold now, we have Juncos, sparrows and cardinals. Juncos are so cute. Yes, snow does have a scent. ⛄

    1. Juncos are cute! The Tufted Titmice are cute too, well and I guess the Black-capped Chickadees are too 🙂. I am not surprised that you are aware of the scent of snow.

  3. We've just started Project FeederWatch. We had a cold snap arrive yesterday, and only one bird came to our feeders. We typically get Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice at this time of year. I'm sure the birds will pick up soon.

I'm planning to start reading the Narnia books next month. I'm looking forward to that.

  4. Several years ago we adopted a starving kitty and said good-bye to our enjoyable visits from bird to our very bird-friendly backyard. How I miss them....but it's worth saving a life. The London House sounds so intriguing! Eager to read your thoughts on this read! :)

    1. I imagine the cat would keep the birds away, but how wonderful that you saved his life.

I am really enjoying The London House and will review it soon!

  7. I wanted to read or watch 11-23-63, but haven't yet. The London House looks good. I hate that it gets dark so early now. At 6:00 it feels like it's midnight. Yuck!

Hope you have a great week!

  8. I just added that sausage pie to my recipes to try.

The birds will be very happy that I remembered to add their birdseed (fruit & nut variety) to my Walmart order and will be picking it up in about half an hour. lol

    1. The birds will be happy! The sausage pie recipe is so good and simple. It makes a full 9x13 pan. Perfect for a Sunday lunch.

  9. The London House sounds so interesting and fits right in with the WWII reading I've been doing this year. Snow definitely has a smell and, since moving to Florida, I kind of miss it!

    1. The London House was good! Even though in the middle of winter I long to be out of the snow, I think I would miss it too.

  11. I wonder if we get 11-22-63? How are you watching it? Do you still have snow and where are you? Midwest? We are having this huge wind storm today so hope the roof stays on. Have a great week.

    1. We watched 11-22-63 on Hulu. Yes, I am in Wisconsin and the snow is not completely gone yet. We were supposed to have a midweek warm up, but the temperature was about 7 degrees cooler than forecasted today, so not much snow melt. Wind storms are scary. I hope all is well with you!

  12. I didn't know 11-22-63 was turned into a series! I'm interested, though still want to read it first!
The only thing I like in colder weather is the return of the cute juncos (Chicagoland)
